I'm looking to round off my collection.
I have a Browning 30-06, 12 Guage Remington Marine Magnum and I'm now looking for an excellent 40. cal.

List so far are the Glock, Sig, HK, CZ.

Any thoughts?

I like the Glock G35. It's what I use at work.

Yea and does the gun going in and out of a holster ever mess up that sight?

i cant fully answer which .40 cal is the best, but i've got a sig229 in .40 cal and i'm very happy with it. i work with about 200 people, all of which carry sigs. about 75% carry .40cal, 20% carry 9mm, and 5% carry .45cal.

of all the people who carry the .40cal in either the 229 or 226, i rarely hear any complaints about them. the only gun i can compare it to from lots of experience at the S&W's. i did extensive range training and there were about 20 people i trained with for several months who used the S&W for work. after putting hundreds of rounds through the guns and practicing how to clear jams, everyone who was shooting the S&W's was complaining that there hands hurt. in fact, a majority were using sports tape to cover up blisters and open cuts.

i don't know the configuration of the S&W's, but i'm pretty sure that having the decock lever (maybe the safety?) on both sides of the slide was causing all of those people to get blisters and cut their hands up. of all the other models at the range (sig, glock, beretta), nobody else had that complaint.

the only issue i have with my sig is that i sometimes cover the slide release with my right thumb, so the slide doesn't lock back when my magazine goes dry. but that is a user error, and one that i'm willing to accept because the grips on the 229 feel a lot more comfortable to me than the 226. so i guess that is one vote for the sig.

Buy what ever best fits your hand and is comfortable. All the above are fine pistols.

My agency requires we carry the Glock in .40 caliber. They issue the G23 but I don't care for that size gun as my primary weapon. Some officers have the larger G22, but I shoot my G35 really well with the 3.5 lb. trigger.

As for the gun going in and out of my holster, I've never had any problems drawing the gun or returning it to the holster. I have the Safariland model 6280 as my holster with the light attachment. The sight is the trijicon night sights. I don't care for the plastic sights that come with the gun.

There are lots of good .40 caliber weapons, Sig, HK, S&W. I think Glock has over 65% of the law enforcement community carrying their weapons. I know part of it is because they cost less than the previous mentioned manufactures, but I believe they are some of the most reliable guns out there. I trust my life with it.

I also got a chance to shoot the new S&W-M&P model. I'm not a big S&W fan, but I really like this gun! Very accurate and you can customize it to fit your hand. I think S&W hit a home run with this gun and might give Glock some competition.

I own one and I love it. Accurate, reliable and easy to disassemble for cleaning. It is so smooth to shoot. Fits me so much better than the Glock.-

I have shot .40cal H&K's, Glock's, and Sig Sauer's, and I currently own and carry a .40 cal Sig Pro 2340. I think that all three companys build superb handguns. However, I'am a die hard Sig Sauer man. Based on my experience with the accuracy of these handguns I rank the Sig's first, followed by the H&K's, and too far behind the Glock's. The thing I dont like about the Glock's is that they are a DAO combat handgun with no safety or decock and they have an internal hammer, once you chamber a round your ready to go and all you have to do is pull the trigger, which can be dangerous in the hands of somebody not familiar with the functioning of the gun. Overall though, I think if you stick with either one of the three brands you will be satisfied.

I'm a Glock fan. They're one of the most intuitive pistols I've ever handled, and IMO point more naturally than a lot of weapons out there. My wife has a Taurus .380, but she prefers my G27 in .40 because she thinks it recoils less. That doesn't make sense when you consider it's twice the round in a smaller gun, but ergonomics go a long way. Sure, it's DAO, but the trigger's crisp and not too heavy. The thing's also remarkably simple to operate. And as far as reliability goes, Glock has a phenomenal reputation. Mine has never jammed.

But for safety's sake, it's a given that you holster it in such a way that the trigger's protected.

I just got a springfield armorary xd-40. I like it alot. I just sold the glock model 22.

I have owned and liked Glocks(22 & 23) A friend had a 35 and I loathed it( personal opinion) I am now a Sig/Sauer owner and have no plans to change.

I'm a fan of single action. I'd probably go with either a Sig Sauer 229/226 w/ hammer, another option would be one of the 1911's out there chambered in 40.

Of the DAO models, I think the Sig DAK, Glock, and S&W MP offer the best triggers.
