Rich, for the benifit of those that don't understand why something like that is necessary, think you could explain you feelings on the long range stock?

Is it necessary? Well.....possibly for those that want to consistently shoot off of a bench but as the old saying goes.....'it ain't necessarily needed' to have exactly this type of stock! But....for those that want to BR shoot....the wide forearm helps for stability/consistency from shot to shot from the front rest and it has WEIGHT which is also conducive to accuracy. This rifle....if one takes a close look has a barrel bedding fixture rather than being bedded under the action which means that the barrel is clamped all the way around by this 'fixture' which is bedded into the stock. This configuration takes away all stress upon the action by it not being bedded. This is a very accurate configuration for those that want to 'plink' out to 1000 yds. and beyond and rifles in this configuration are normally of such weight that they are in the "Unlimited Category" for those that shoot at Williamsport, Pa. and other locations. If I were going to build up a rifle similar to this I would choose Kevlar for the stock material because it is quite durable/solid/ and has weight.....if a bench rifle is what one wants! I'm not a fan of thumbhole stocks....but that's just my little 'quirk'! I'm a member of the 'old school' and desire a standard pistolgrip style configuration. It should be rather obvious that this IS NOT a rifle that you'd carry around to hunt with; it has a special purpose and that purpose is to put bullets into small groups at just about any distance one wishes to shoot! In the right caliber......rifles like this are deadly accurate out to 1500 yds. and beyond; depending upon the ability of the shooter thereof! Normally rifles such as this DO NOT HAVE FACTORY BARRELS; rather they come from folks like Dan Lilja, my friend 'Boots' Obermeyer, Kreiger, Hart, Douglas, Badger, etc. All....make EXCELLENT barrels! Are they expensive? Compared to a factory rifle yes......but in the finality.....NO! If you're going to run in NASCAR.....you can't win driving an A-Model Ford with an 80 HP engine!!

Oh....Don it's RICK......not Rich.

No need to overthink it! A rifle like this

can make hits all day long at 1000 yards, and is still something you'd sling up for a hunt.

Well Zak here it is. 700 Rem in a BDL stock w/25" shilen barrel in 6.5-06 w/ 4-12 Bushnell. The stock was completely opened up and then re-bedded with micro bed. Barrel floated from chamber forward. When it was a 25-06, all the same work was done. Matter of fact the 25-06 I still have, an ADL has all this work done also.

This is just a shot out one side of my house. Two other sides are about the same.
