2 Lynx, 1 Mink, 5 or 6 Weasel, 2 Red Squirrel and 1 Flying Squirrel

Some of the roads were plowed out. Others had traffic before
us and about 1/3 was just Us on the Road. Nice sunny day with
a Mink. Mike has only caught 1 other in his Martin Boxes. There
are usually a pair.

We go out again tomorrow. The roads have lots of snow and
breaking fresh trail. And resetting the snares. Takes more
time, when there has been another dump of 6 or 7 inches.

All the boxes and Lynx sets need attention or most anyway.
The track are all fresh and Mike is moving a few Weasel
traps around.

The roads were passable. In the two days checking, we
never got stuck. But came very very close. We put out
13 of 14 boxes of bones and butcher parts. Close to 80
pounds per box. That weight was handy for breaking new
trail.

The Fisher was quite large but had a rather short tail
for one that big. The Martin was above average size.
Again the weasels were Big. Just 1 weasel that was
chewed a bit.

If we get any more snow then we'll need snowshoes.

I did some pictures and video showing the differences
between Mink, Weasel, Martin, Fisher and Otter.

Another friend is cleaning skulls. I'll get some video
of them when they are done.

The last of todays video will be downloaded tomorrow.

Just got back from Mikes. No camera this time.

That Fisher with the short tail had a big lump
part way down and just a thin little dry end.

I'll get some video of that carcass next time
I visit. His head was huge as well. I saw the
inside of the hide and he had lots of fight
marks and not that good of a hide. He was one
tuff Big Fisher. Old Short Tail.

That last Lynx that was large was a special one
as well. His feet were smaller than most and were
almost black. His ear tuffs were shorter as well.
The color was probably the best of all his cats
this year. I'll get video of that one when it is
flipped fur side out.

Both skulls from Short tail Fisher and Black foot
Lynx will be cleaned up and kept.

I'll dig up the bush video of these 2 animals to
go with the hides and carcass video in the next
few days.

Took some more video at Mikes place.

His nice Lynx is different.
Very short ear tuffs and more
reddish brown and very white
on the stomach. Small Black
feet for a big Lynx.

I took my laptop over and showed
Mike some of the video. It was the
first time, Him or Brownie saw this
seasons video. They liked it a lot
The dog got pretty exicted a couple
times. Mike too.

Mike shoots his first Weasel

1 Lynx 7 or 8 Weasel a few ruffed grouse
and a very sunny day. the videos will have
the 2nd half loaded up tomorrow morning.

The weasel was hiding in a block of bait
we saw him when we drove by the first time
and slowed to check for him when comming back
there he was inside the bait sticking his head
out. Bif that was it. Mike said he sorta stuck
in the hole he had backed into. He was the first
one Mike has ever shot..

More cloudy today 21Jan2007 with a light snow at times.
Brownie got to chase the birds a bit.
Lots of trafic on the back haul road.

Went to a Funeral yesterday. A guy got killed clearing
some of the blow down trees we got a short time back.
Clearing the SkiDoo trails for others. I was 1 grade behind
him in a small school. Anyway I never mess with powersaws.

The Spruce hen was busy in the tree. There was a small
snow storm right after that.

John and Mikes Winter TrapLine video - close close to the end.

Posted some video of New Lynx sets on Mikes trapline done yesterday.
2 weasel we only checked a few that were in the area.

The Fisher are still being difficult to catch. Comming
to the box but no farther unless it is sprung with some
other critter.

The Martin Season ends with January, so one more complete
check then the traps come out.

It was partly cloudy and warm on Wednesday. The one new
lynx set had a tree hanging sort of dangerously. I don't
think I'll check that one for Mike.

After the season is over:
I will post the whole Martin season again in groups of 10
a day. That will take some time, there is already over 340
individual video shots. Just flowing over into the 6Th DVD
at 22+ GigaBytes of data.

I have placed some keeper videos at youtube.com, dailymotion.com
and viddler.com besides those at dropshot.com/spectateswamp

Another sunny day with some Moose video and
lots of good footage of Spruce Hens the main
Bird HimSelf was marching around for a good
bit.

Pretty good day overall video wise and catch.

That's the last full check. Mike will be pulling
them in the next few days. I may not go along.

I'll get some video of the various Skulls that
have been cleaned and defleshed.

10 of the 14 Video from today (27Jan2007) are uploading.

Need a New Posting:
"What to do, when Secretive Internet Censors pull their strings"

There is pressure from "GreenPeace" or somebody. About some
Bear video. My friends, Friend kind of thing got word. So
the video is all gone from any site that it has been posted on.

Back from the final pull with Mike. He went out yesterday
and took out the first half of the Martin traps.

So that's it, for the "John and Mikes Winter TrapLine - Video"
posting is concerned. We all had fun right up to the end.

Our trapper friends may want to share their video at a later date.

We'll do it again Next Year.

Just got back from talking with Mike.
He had a 3 hour grilling at the Fish and Game office this morning.

Mike has been charged with shooting that Weasel from the Truck. ($150 fine)

And there are threats to keep him from trapping next year.

Some of my numbers and counts may be wrong and could possibly
be used against Mike. Maybe a badly chewed one I counted etc.

So if this post could be set aside for a short while. It would
be appreciated.

Probably too late anyway. But thanks.

The Fish Cops had been watching it all along. and took copies
illegally. Mike has yet to see the video.

I think Mike is about ready to start posting the video again.
Not much that they can do now.

I'll get some video outside the courtroom. See what they have
to say for themselves.

Posted: Sat Feb 03, 2007 6:42 am    Post subject: Mike is in the Hospital

Mike is in hospital with high blood pressure complicated
with the bad cold he had of late. He was admitted at
8:25pm Yesterday after a grueling 3 hour session with
Fish and WildLife. What's that Feather, are the breasts
out of those birds. A total of 12 or so charges, were
laid out from the video, which eventually boiled down
to just the Weasel shooting.

Computer News is going to do some checking around.
Carry out a Citizens Investigation if you like.

First there will be interview some local Trappers asking
them for testimonials for Mike and I'll ask them what
they think of The Alberta Trappers Associations
performance so far. I'll be requesting interviews
with the Association people who initialted this witchhunt.

Locals, who would like to voice their opinion in this
matter are asked to come forward. Or supply me with some
hard hitting questions.

First NewsCast later today or early tomorrow. So email,
Call or post your comments on the various trapper forums.

It's 5:40am Saturday here. I will post a quick update to
Mikes status after I see him. I'm heading over to see Brownie
he just didn't what to stay here last night.

I will be debreafing Mike, finding out what when on yesterday.
