In Sept of this year 200 whitetail were killed by a epizootic hemorrhagic disease, DNR said the disease was spread by nats, this is just the ones they know about, I am looking forward to deer gun season, and will interested to see if there are a lot of deer this year. I will also be on the look out for deer carcusses as I go walk about on the property. Inofrmation on this was in the Akron Beacon Journal (Ohio) date Sept. 13,2002 page b5

Well, back from one week of deer hunting, brother, are there deer out there, it was real good to see so many deer, and to have a pick and chose hunt for a change. With a three deer tags, one antler, two non antlered, it was a good time, all saw and got deer. Biggest one was a six point buck, not a giant, but a nice full deer.

Congrats on a good hunt, Chechatonga!

Did you see any deer that might have had EHD?

No all the deer in Monroe County Ohio, we saw were acting very healthy. No sickly ones found or seen. Now in Wayne County Ohio a friend saw and shot one that had gotten into a fenced pasture and seemed stupid and unable or confused to find its way out of the pasture. I think I would have passed on it. He is going to eat it, I think I would have let it pass, although it has been removed from the heard.

Chechatonga, On Dec.28 me and my dad were hunting in Pike county Ohio where I got my Mid 140 class buck during gun season.Anyhow 15 minutes after setting my deer stand up I heard my dad shoot. Within 2 minutes I saw what I thought to be a large doe.Well since I had already scored with a buck it was time to fill my doe tag.As (she) got about 60 yards out broadside I decided it was now or never. Well as it turned out the (she) was a (he). Yep! a buck that had already dropped his rack. His pedicles were still wet so I figured he had just lost them recently. I asked the game warden and he said that this was normal and probably not from the blue tongue disease. The deer sure didn't taste any different.

I was muzzle loader hunting on the 30th of Dec, and saw a buck with only one antler, it may have lost it in many ways or just dropped it in a normal mannar as yours, anyway I had filled by antler tag and had to pass on the deer, I was out for does only that day. Take care, and good hunting
