| Got my mount back. Now I have to finish off my basement. The head is to big for 8 ft walls and my basement has 10 foot walls. A little motivation for a winter project. |

| Nice looking head. How long did it take to get it back? I had an Antelope done and it took over 1 1/2 yrs! |

Don, took about 2 years. Was told it would be much less but I think the saving of the velvet kind of kicked the guys butt?
Hunter777, get it up in Northern Quebec, I believe it is called the Labrador Barenground? If you go to "Heading to Schefferville" on the next page of the Caribou topic there is info about my hunt and a couple of photos. |

If it is from Quebec it is a Quebec/Labrador caribou. Central barren ground are fround in the Northwest Territories east of the Mackenzie Mtns. in the barrens and in Nunavut and the northern most part of Manitoba.
Barren ground caribou are found in the northern Yukon and Alaska. Mountain caribou in BC, Alberta, southern Yukon, the Mackenzie Mtns of the Northwest Territories. Newfoundland caribou are Woodland.
This is of course for record book (B&C) listings. SCI also has the Arctic Islands caribou (Perry's). Biologists will also tell you there are woodland in northern Saskatchewan and Manitoba ........ah, forget it, why muddy the water. :D |

Don't want to sound pessimistic, but caribou with velvet don`t age well ,bug get into it.
Unless it was imediately injected with a special formula (rarely done in the tundra) blood remaind between the velvet and hantler and it attrack bug...just don`t tell your wife :[-X
Taxidernist recommanded we pell the velvet.
Nice rack anyway! :thumbsup1:

Ungava, welcome to the forem. Look like a big Bou hunter. Hope that you did not peel all those antlers yourself or your thumbs would be rubbed right off
If you had read my other post you would see that I did inject the antler right after shooting the animal. Then my taxidermist (who was very experienced with mounting in velvet) put them through a long special process to preserve them. I also fog them with a "Bug Bomb" at least once a year (if not twice). I must admit that if done incorectly velvet will not last at all. I expect to get years of enjoyment out of my mount due to diligence. :thumbsup1: |
