Has anyone from PA tried calling bears in? I have been successful still hunting, and many guys put on drives. Although I have never hurd of anyone around here useing calls I wonder if it would be worth a try?
Any opinions?

While I have never hunted in PA, you should be able to call them. We ran an article on black bear hunting here a while back.
The key, as Judd points out in the article, is to assure that there are black bear within the area you will be doing the calling. All the calling in the world won't do much good if the bears are not in ear shot.
Good Luck! |

| I'm a bear hunter in Pa too, also interested in calling, I think it's too crowded where I hunt in the poconos. my Party has had good sucess with tree stands, and tracking when snow is available , would love to compare notes with you on still hunting. Last yr out of 6 hunters, we got 3 bears. |

| I have always still hunted bear by myself on the ground. This past year I took a smaller 175 pound boar. I have been reading artilcles on calling, and I think the problem here may be that the bear are to spread out over a wide area...would you agree with me? |

| Don't know where you hunt , but where I hunt they are very heavily concentrated , last season on the first day, 5 were shot within 200 yds of my stand and we estimated by tracks and sign at least 12 were hitting this large corn field nearby. I think calling would work but the high hunter pressure would work against you there must not be a lot of hunters where you still hunt? Now the 3rd day there was no one in the woods and I followed fresh tracks all day but never caught up to the bear, maybe calling might have worked there? |
