| I am from the San Fernando Vallley. I hunt mule deer and am hoping to be drawn for elk, antelope, or maybe bighorn. I varmint hunt and am going to start predator hunting again this year. Most of the people I work with are not hunters but they enjoy my hunting stories. Naturally some of them tell me hunting is sick as they eat their hamburgers or steaks. I am proud to call myself a hunter. |

I just found this site and I’m hunter in SoCal., Orange County, haven’t been hunting in a long time. Well since my black Lab died.
I use to hunt in New Mexico, but haven’t done much big game hunting in California. I heard too many horror stories about opening day crowds and also getting harassed by ignorant anti hunting folks.
Maybe I can get the old juiced flowing by talking to you guys and get out there again.

Northern California Hunter checking in...
I live in Santa Rosa (although just recently moved here from San Jose) and hunt primarily small game.....Rabbit, Squirrel, Dove, Pheasant, Quail. The only big game that I've gone after and currently have an interest in are pigs.
This place is the closest thing I've found to an actual California Hunting Forum and it looks like alot of others have found it too. Are there any other online resources for us left coasters?
Lastly, being new to Sonoma County I really have no idea as to where to hunt here and would love some advice on it. Found a place in Napa county and tried some rabbit hunting there with a shotgun last weekend to no avail. I'd love to know of some places within a reasonable drive that I can rabbit and/or tree squirrel hunt with a rifle. The spots I've found locally only permit shotguns.
My tools of the trade:
Enfield - No.1 Mk III - .303 British - Bolt - Sporterized Stock (Wild Boar)
Ithica Model 37 - 20 Gauge - Pump (Rabbit, Squirrel, Dove, Quail, Pheasant)
Marlin Model 717M2 - .17HM2 - Semi (Rabbit, Squirrel) |

| I shot a deer on the first day of the season in D5. Actually it seemed more like half a deer. I swear the sheriff who signed my tag was trying not to laught and I heard a muttered 'jackalope' comment while dropping it off at the butcher. Needless to say I would like to shoot something more substantial and boar fits the bill. I'm not sure what the prospects are on public lands and the 'No Trespassing' signs seem to be breeding, don't they? I don't really want to pay a guide 500 plus dollars but I have considered paying for some kind of hunt club membership. Any recommendations? |

Hi all,
New to deer hunting. Still acquiring equipment. Small game hunter for years when I was younger. Just got out of Falconry. Looking to hook up with some hunters in the southern California area that can show me the ropes on Mule Deer and where to go for public land hunts. I live in Temecula (southern Riverside County) and am not opposed to driving to zone A south. Any suggestions? Any clubs in this area?
Thanks |

New to the boards but I'm from Central Cali ...Selma just south of Fresno. I normally hunt D7, but have hunted D8, A, and will hunt B2 this year. I'm also part of Wilderness Unlimited. I hunt Deer, Pig, Bear, Elk (out of state), upland birds, and waterfowl. I'm also and avid fisherman during the off season.
