I'm new to hunting. I'm from San Jose. Can anyone recommend a good place...public land or inexpensive private land to go hunt on?

Thanks!

I'm new to the board, but not to California. Nailed an awesome 173" Muley this year up in X3B. Live in the stockton area, anyone hunt hogs?

I am in Orange County, One of the few consevative counties left in California.
I am just in the process of deciding what I want for my first rifle. (at 24 years of age)
Any advice on getting started, book recommendations, etc. Please pass them along.

I'm new to hunting but born and raised in Cali. I currently live in Sacramento. Anybody know of some good places to go in the Sierras or north of Sac near Yuba City / Marysville?

Thanks.

Also, I'm willing to travel a bit to go hunting if anybody ever needs a partner to go with. Right now I only have a rifle for deer / wild pig hunting but I'm going to be buying a 12gauge soon.

Yeah, it is special draw. It was taken during the general season, up in the north east part of the state.

Hey, Welcome to the Board. I'm born and raised in San Diego. My understanding is: You CAN hunt, but not alone. It's a lot of fun, have you hunted before?

Thanks for the reply. I too was born and raised here. I havent hunted before, but it does look like fun. How old does one have to be to own a hunting rifle in california?

I have been looking at a few Winchester rifles, as they are the only ones I know lol  .

http://www.winchesterguns.com

I've been looking at the Model 9410 and the Model 70's.

Winchester's are fine. You have to be 18 to purchase rifle/shotgun. 21 for Handguns.

You can use any of these firearms with your responsible parent/Guardian present (Don't know if you can use firearms to hunt with a different licensed adult or not).

To get your hunting license at any age, you need to take an 8 hour hunter safety class (about $10-$15). The most important thing about hunting is to take care of the animals and land around you. They're natural resources that we all share. Oh yeah, and be safe;)

Thanks OZSTRIKER, I decided to download the Model 70 manual, just to get a closer look at the gun. The manual must have been shot or somthing, lots of red. I'll look up about the license and the safety class.

Also, where are some hunting fields (or whatever they are called  ), I tried doing a search but was un-succesfull.

Well, the problem is that you live in California, and almost worse, San Diego (although much better than San Francisco!) - And it's all run by a bunch of hunter-hating, bunny-humping, brush hugging idiots.

None-the-less, there are a few areas to hunt in San Diego. You should check out the BLM website and Cleveland Nat'l Forest website (links are on the DFG website) and order two maps: BLM maps for San Diego and Cleveland Nat'l Forest Map. That should get you in the right direction.

Most of my hunting is elsewhere.

What type of animals do you want to hunt?
