So, I am walking back to the rig. There are about 5 minutes of legal shooting left - but with the low, dense cloud cover it is already getting dark. Then I see them - flying toward me from west to east - two teal, like F-16s on low patrol, looking for targets, silent, flying ahead of their sound. Soon they are beside me, and then past, and in another moment, a hundred yards away. All I have moved is my head and neck, not even trying to lift my shotgun. I start walking again. Behind my back they fly a quarter mile, turn 180, and buzz me again, going east to west. Over my should I spot them, and I watch again in marvel as they pass - thinking - is it physically possible to swing a 12-gauge shotgun fast enough to shoot a teal?. But in another instant they are well past me, and the question is moot. I imagine one saying to the other - "Dang that was fun - did you see the look on his face? ... Let's do that again." By this time I was determined that if they buzzed me a third time I would try and shoulder my gun and get in front enough to take a shot. "Nah ... that was the Serious Hunter ... at some point he might start shooting at us - and one of us might get hurt."
Gosh those teal are amazing. |

| Funny you should mention F-16s because I always said they were like little fight jets and only a sidewinder was going to catch up with them! They do die fairly easy though, at least the few I have connected with. :P |

| I have connected with a few - but very few. They have for the most part traveled south by the time of hunting season. What few remain - I mostly just watch in marvel as they flame in and out. |

| We don't have many around here but I saw them in Louisiana and I was impressed with thier speed. Neet ducks. |

| Very good eating too.Have a friend that calls them breakfast ducks. I managed two green wings with one shot a year or two ago. Pure luck I might add, but I've always said that I'd rather have a little luck than skill any day! |
