all i have for coyotes is a savage 308 im shooting a reload in 150gr bt sierra (green tip) traveling at about 2400fps just wondering if anyone has used a biger cal for coyotes than the standard coyote round and if anyone has used a 308 for this application and what would be a good reload or factory load for coyotes in 308

use a very light for cal load, I beleive .308 has a 110, 125 gr loads(factory ammo) you will be OK.

i am not sure if remington offers the reduced recoil for .308 or not, but for the 30-06 it does not do to bad for coyote

pelt damage may be significant if you hit the shoulder bone

If thats all you have then roll with it. But I would try to go with a little lighter bullet. The .308 IMO is a little much for yotes. I have seen .243's do a bit of damage to yotes. Just try to stay away from shoulder shots they just plum ruin the pelt

I'll be using my 45/70 and 50 cal T/C later in the winter. Consider it good practice with your hunting rifle. If you're planning on keeping the pelt though, it wouldn't hurt to find something smaller. Besides, any excuse to get another rifle is a good one indeed. I wouldn't mind trying out one of those 22-250's, or even adding a .222 to the collection.

Hornady has a 110gr available. I'm not sure how much. It's listed as tactical home defense, but looking at the ballistics I bet it'd be right at home in the field with coyotes.
