Just got back from a weekend youth hunt in eastern washington......though i limited on pheasants each day and i got 1 chukar...the population is down this year bad......My cousin and i were talking about it and came to the conclusion that due toa wet spring there was a bad and lat hatch for upland birds in paticular....
Spacifically were we hunt in the southeast region of wahington state.......I was wondering if anyone else has seen a decrease in the population in there area also.... maybe even a different cause than what i thought...thanks for your time....

Cody.

Our quail and pheasant pop. here declined drastically about a decade ago. They both seem to be coming back now. Especially the quail.

Yeah, my friends and I hunt the SE Washington area exclusively and noticed all birds are wayyyy down. Pheasants, chukar, quail and huns.

I agree that we have lost some birds. The chukars seem to be doing well, but the quail. huns, and pheasants are down.

Yea.. since i never reposted after that initial weekend hunt, and WAcoyotehunter brought this thread up from the dead...i'll give an update of our success in SW washington. That youth weekend i limited out both days on pheasants, and did get 1 chuckar... i went back two more times 1 time before Pheasants was open.. that was deer opener. We saw more phasants thatn youth weekend, but just not as many as normal.. and i went again the last open weekend of pheasants in the snow!!!! it was awesome and we were seeing quite a few birds... we also saw and got quail.. Initially in October during youth i was concerned, but by that last weekend i wasn't concerned because we got out limits and saw plenty more birds... Though as Redrider said about 10 years ago in the 90's the bird populations drastically fell and have slowly been climbing from there...

Here is a pic from youth weekend From left to right.. Uncle. Me(holding my first double of the year!!) my lil cousin(standing) and my older cousin(partner in crime)
The two dogs are Buck our yellow lab, and Tasha the black lab with my older cousin..(HARD TO SEE)

Echo the wiz kid. border collies can do anything! She picked this up after hunting with a friends labs. These dogs NEED a job to keep from going crazy. Instead of herding sheep, her job is hunting.
