Curious of any one out there hunting black tail in the north west part of Washington; Forks, Port Angeles, Sequim, Port Townsend, or Quilcene area.
I hunt all the above |

I have not hunted those areas before, but my partner and I were talking about it for next season.
How are those areas? Do they produce? I've see some biggens' over there (always on vacation in the summer) but the country seems even thicker than here off of hwy 2.
We're looking at both Sequim and Forks. Also thought about the Quinalt area. Ever hunted that area? |

Thanks for the response. Sequim isn't very good hunting unless the hit the right roads which will take you to quilcene (high country). Forks has some of the largest game in the northwest (wa) Big bear and lots of it. Also some Elk and Large blacktail. I hunt in the Quilcene/Hoodcanal area. There are lots of Deer, Bear,Cougar,Coyote,Bobcat, and Grouse. but the underbrush is unreal! It is so hard to hunt the timber unless you are in high country but i have seen some nice big game and small game taken from the area. You really need to the know the areas though otherwise it can be very difficult. I look forward to hearing back.. Good Luck
PS never hunted the Quinalt but there are some NICE elk in the Hoh River area. |

I HUNT THE AREAS AND THE UNDER BRUSH IN THE TIMBER IS CRAPY I MEAN SOME SPOTS YOU CAN ONLY SEE 10 FEET IN FRONT OF YOU BUT IF YOU GET A GOOD SPOT EARLIE MORNING YOU MAY BE ABLE TO TAKE THE BIG ONE OUT. HUNTING UP HERE IN JEFFERSON/CLALLAHM COUNTY AREA SEEMS SO MUCH HARDER THEN OTHER AREAS LIKE YOU SEE ON THE HUNTING MOVIES. IT SEEMS LIKE THE ONLY WAY TO GET ONE IS OFF YOUR BACK PORCH BUT ITS NOT AS FUN AS ACTUALLY HUNTING THE ANIMAL. BUT MY ADVISE IS TO COME A COUPLE DAYS BEFORE THE SEASON STARTS AND SCOUT THE AREAS EVAN IF YOU HAVE TO WALK 15 MILES. ONCE YOU KNOW THE AREA YOU SHOULD HAVE SOME GOOD LUCK UP HERE.
WELL GOOD LUCK TO ALL AND HAVE A GREAT SEASON

So, i jogged thru the Olympic Resource lands near Discovery Bay this morning,I did not see one hunter.
I did however spook 2 spikes and a two point right off the bat and 5 doe in the next half hour. Not bad for a one hour run!!
Anyone else hunt these lands?? |
