PLEASE HELP  my last one was chambered in the 6mm-284 and shot like a house on fire but i sold it to a friend who is getting started in benchrest. so now i need a new one.

WOW! That look's pretty serious. How much does that weigh? What range are you going to be shooting this rifle? I would think that the cartridge would depend on range. If your shooting 100 to 200yd stuff, I'm not sure there is an advantage of larger bore's. I have a soft spot for the 222 Rem but it certainly wouldn't make a 600 yd cartridge. Maybe your thinking a 1000yd rifle?

The thing I found with the 6.5 is not that many good match bullet's around, but you only need one! I'm sitting here wasting time thinking about your choices. I think I'd choose the 6.5-284. It has to be a lot easier on barrel's and on the shooter. The 6.5 match bullet's that are there are sleek to a fault. I guess I don't have to tell you, pay attention to twist rate. I have a 1-9 and it's almost to slow for the 140 gr bullet's. I talked to Sierra and they said the 140 gr MK would work for me and it does. But the 142 gr MK they tell me won't! You wouldn't think 2 grs would make that much difference. If I get another, it will be a 6.5x270 with a 1-8" twist. I like the longer neck and then I can make my cases from 270 cases. I don't have a 270 so no chance of a mix up.

Back to your old rifle. That block on the barrel, that's the bedded part, right? I think darrel Holland is making something similar on hunting rifles.
