Im a new comer BUT. I honestly do not think there is a "all around rifle". Whatever caliber the hunter shoots the best is the best. I agree that shooting a Elk or Moose with a .243 is on the lite side but if the hunter knows that he can put the shot were it needs to be then thats his peragative. I shoot a 30-06 but I have several other calibers I can use, but I shoot my best groups with the 06 so thats what I use the most. If a hunter can put up with the recoil of the .338 mag then use it. There is no such thing as over kill as long as the kill is quik and humane rather its on a rabbit or moose.
