Gun

Get a Weatherby Vanguard. I got that as my first gun. It came with a nice Bushnell 3-9x40 scope, a sling (it broke but thats easy and cheap to replace), a nice hard sided case, a nice gun lock, scope lense caps, and a factory shot target with less than 1" grouping at 100 yards. I got it in .308 Win and it shoots great. All that only cost I think it was 550$? Anyway, I would advise against the Remington 770. The action is kinda faulty and cheaply made. I mean its ok if you want a cheap gun fast (especially if you have others but want sumfin new), but Id also religiously advocate the Remington 700.

I have done a little research on the Vanguards and they are definately good rifles. I haven't made up my mind totally but I am leaning towards the Marlin and I kinda want to buy from a US manufacturor.

USA

Yeah, that is usually what I look at first (after performance). But the deal I got on my Weatherby was just too good.

The Weatherby Vanguard is by far the best bang for the buck on the market..

well the Marlin is great and especially if you want to buy American. Have you had any experience with a Marlin XL7?

I disagree I think the savage 110 is a more accurate rifle out of the box for far less money. You are paying for a quality firearm and not the Weatherby name.
