nice bucks that one is tall
Great job on the antelope. ![]()
That is an outstanding day for sure and a good looking buck, congratulations! Hope your luck continues so you can fill the remaining tags. Now come the real work with all the butchering.
Nice job on the goats. We had a good day like that lasy year and yeah it does create alot of work, but mannit is alot of fun to hunt them antelope. I will be out there in a few weeks with rifle in hand hoping to put aniother dent in the population.
I do have to ask...where were you that you could already hunt with a rifle?
We were hunting out of Rawlins. Most of the units in that area along hwy 80 and to the north all open early. We hunted last year over by Laramie using hunter management areas and they all opened this week as well. I didn'r realize till I looked at my brochure how many of them open later. It took 3 points to get the buck tags but there are usually plenty of doe tags in most of the units. We try to go in an early one to be able to hunt our regular seasons here in Colorado.
We did get the last 2 tags filled but it took just as long for those 2 doe tags as it did for all the others the day before. A lot more hunters moved into the area and the animals were really wound up. Most of the stalks were nearly a half mile to get in position for a shot. If they saw the truck while you were spotting no matter how far away they were gone and running. We would drive to the base of hills and then hike up and glass to see if anything was around.
My buck was taken at 285 yards, my sons at 310 and my dad took his with the .32 at 165.
Everything else was around 200 to 300 except for one doe that I took with a ranged 509 yards. That's the longest shot I've ever taken but with the Zeiss rangefinder and scope with the bdc reticle it was a one shot kill on the spot. Strangely there was no wind at the time or I wouldn't have taken it.
The 270wsm with 130gr ballistic tip worked great.
Congratulations on a great hunt. Filling your tags is certainly part of hunting but being with family in the great outdoors makes the trip really worthwhile. Many great memories for years to come. Cannot wait until my season opens.
Congrats on the start of what I hope is a great hunting season for you.
One of these days I will have to try speedgoats in Wyoming.

Great job, antelope are next on the menu here for me, but we've got to straighten out some handloads first
