Wyoming Units 73 and 75

As my other post in this forum states, I am looking to go to WY for my first speed goat hunt.  So far, it looks like the thunder basin area is going to be first choice for us.  However, we are looking for a back up area too.  Is units 73 and 75 decent places to go after the goats?

Units 73 & 75

These are both good units and a large percentage of it is public land.  However, I checked the draw odds and there is no chance you would draw either one of them as a second choice and a very slim chance even as a first choice!  Unit 73 has two license periods that overlap and only 73-1 is showing in the drawing odds the F&G has on their website.  In the 2010 regular random draw 337 people applied as a first choice for the 30 available licenses and in the PP drawing people with 1 PP only had a 39% chance at a tag.  Unit 75 was basically the same in that 194 applied for 14 licenses and in the PP draw only 40% even drew a tag with 2 PPs.  Therefore, there is really no sense in putting either one of them down as a second choice because they will not even get to you in the drawing!  Here is an idea that you might kick around if you think you will go out there more than one season.  If you plan on that, I would suggest that you apply and buy a Preference Point with unit 73 or 75 as your first choice and unit 29 as your second choice.  That way you stand a slight chance at getting the first choice tag in the random drawing and even if you don't get that tag you will get the tag for 29, as well as gaining a PP for next year to apply for unit 27 or one of the others that needs at least 1 PP to draw in 2012.  I hope that is not too confusing.  One more thing is that if two or more of you are going together you should apply as a party.  You don't increase your odds of drawing the tag, but everyone will either draw one or not because you all will be entered in the drawing under one number with one chance, just as if it was one person applying by themselves.  If you have any more questions, just ask away and I'll try to help you as much as possible!  Attached is the 14 1/2" goat I got in unit 115 with my 3 PPs in 2009.
