Wyoming Non-Res Antelope

Hey guys,

I've been lurking on the site for a while, and was hoping you all could help me out with a question about antelope hunting in Wyoming.  Going to take my daughter up this fall, I live in the Denver area, and I can't find out which units have a good percentage of public lands to hunt on the Wyoming Game and Fish Website.  We didn't put in for the draw this year, the deadline is before Colorado's and I blew it, so I'm just looking to get otc doe tags.  It will be my daughter's first hunt, she's 17, so I want to make sure she sees animals even if we can't get her in range.  I've only hunted for Pronghorn once, 2011 in unit 135 Colorado, and saw plenty of animals but wasn't able to get in range.

Any suggestions regarding units would be helpful, or even better if you know where on the web I can review the information would be great.

Thanks in advance for your help.

My philosophy.....

No offense, but good hunting is a heavily guarded secret and I think you'll struggle to find someone that will suggest exactly what you're looking for. Also, at this point, most of the leftovers are in areas without a lot of public land, so you're going to have to do some your own research.  I'm happy to give hints and critique suggestions, but I no longer do outright suggestions.

So, think about getting some maps that show public land in the area you are interested in, but also look into the walk in and hunter management areas. You have almost a month to do some scouting and make some educated decisions.

hint

There's a handful of units, when you look at the leftover list, that don't have the little red star, indicating difficult public access.  Might start with looking at those.

leftover list

Thanks, and I found the leftover list and now have a few GMU's to look at.  (Also have a calendar reminder in outlook to buy the licenses on the 18th...) Can you recommend a map that shows GMU's for Wyoming, in additional to public lands, I've been using Map-it from the DOW website in combination with Topo software for my gps for hunting in CO.  Will need good maps for Wyoming.

Thanks again for your help

looks you're about to F that up again

Leftovers go on sale on the 17th, not 18th.  Don't miss another deadline.  I assure you, every one of those licenses with good public access will be gone that day.

Wyoming shows their antelope unit boundaries in the hunting regulations section.

Go to the USGS map store in Lakewood for BLM maps.

I think there's some software out ther for GPSs that show BLM boundaries but I don't have it.

Where to go for WY doe antelope

I drew 2 type 6 doe antelope tags, but that unit is now sold out.  There are still tags available, but it will take some research to find out if there are any places to hunt, and as was mentioned the morning the leftovers go on sale they will go QUICK!  Be online at 8:00am that morning and be patient because it will go slow with everyone else trying to get tags.  To help with some research there are 3 things you need:  The leftover list, the map of WY antelope units, and the BLM surface management maps.  Here are links to those:

The BLM link maps are small, but you can see where there are pockets of public land.  For a hint, look at unit 48, there are small pockets of public land there.  I used to hunt across the road in 39 and there were always lots of antelope there.

Links and help

Thanks for the links and the help.  And I had the right date for the leftovers in my outlook calendar, but thanks for mentioning the 17th too.
