Catalina Costs

Considering the cost of an out of state hunt, it's about even for me. I can hunt Wyoming and camp for 2 weeks and it'll cost each of us around $700, or so, but we set up a huge camp etc.... We do the late season (2) doe hunt on Catalina and it's pretty great having someone else do just about everything, especially only a month after Wyoming, in which I'm the youngest guy by 20 years. I'm the designated camp wood gatherer, axe man, wood stacker, water bucket boy, deer "skinner" and "dragger" for our group.

2 nights/3 days in a house near Avalon beach, all food, cooking, cleaning and non-alcoholic beverages, snacks and fully guided with skining and quartering/cold storage. All that for a little over $1200. I really don't see how they can do it for so cheap. I'll keep going at that rate. I just have to keep working a few extra "retired annuintant" days to save for it. If anyone has kids, new hunters or elderly folks, this is a great place to hunt.

Well, that's a little less

Well, that's a little less than I remember it being, and not bad at all.  Definately worth checking out when my son get's older.  Right now though, I enjoy my archery hunting down here in San Diego, and don't know if I could bring myself to give up that, so that I could get the 2 tags for Catalina.

Are those hunts still run by the Conservancy?

Catalina Info

Sort of. The conservancy contracted with the guides of Wildlifewest (Ben and Jim) to manage the herd. Check out the link to their website I put up in a previous post. Might be a consideration if you fail to fill your archery tag.

WYO big game lic fee increase

Well new house bill HB0236 puts all the lic fee increase on non resident tags with no increase to res tags. I am a resident and still don't think this is fair. If it passes non residents will be footing the bill for the Game and Fish revenue increase. It will be considered monday. The "Fair license fee proposal" is still under consideration as well. You can view it at www.drawalicensenow.blogspot.com this link also gives you the legislators considering the HB0236. Take a look and let your feelings be known.

It isn't fair, just like a

It isn't fair, just like a lot of other things in life! Residents pay such a small amount of the money into the overall G&F budget (less than 20%)that it's ridiculous. Then when funds really need to be increased they whine about their fees being raised and the majority just think the NRs should bail them out. If this goes through and resident fees stay the same, my prediction is that there will be a backlash just like happened in Idaho and Montana. They may still sell the top tags because of so many people being locked into the PP system right now, but down the line it will not be business as usual. As far as your Bill, it was my understanding from the email that one Legislator wrote back to you that your idea is pretty much dead in the water.

Get a life yourself man!

Get a life yourself man! I'll continue to tell it like it is and the email response you posted from a Legislator on another website said just about what I stated. Sorry that I, and most others, that have posted on sites where you made your proposal don't go along with it and feel it is self serving to outfitters like yourself. It will also screw everyone with PPs that wants to put in for more than one choice in the draw without paying more money and then they would lose their PPs if they drew a 2nd or 3rd choice when they only lose them now on a first choice draw. It's a bad friggin Bill and I'll continue to tell everyone it is until it goes in file 13 (that's the waste basket in case you are wondering, LOL). Incidentally, I would bet that I donate more free time to many causes than you can count to using your fingers and toes, LOL!!! PS: You also make no sense with your statement on my time in your state, as I was there for 8 weeks last year and 9 the year before infusing much needed cash into your G&F system, so don't knock us NRs!!!

Sorry Bud, but the only thing

Sorry Bud, but the only thing you have done is come onto the site, put up some crap about increasing fees against a huge segment of your clientel, and then get all hurt when one of our regulars, who I have NEVER seen have any problems on this site, throws up a few negative comments towards your proposal?

Way to start the name calling.  If you don't want any negative comments towards your proposals, I suggest not posting them on a public forum.  Thanks, move along........
