Wyoming

hello,

im new to this forum and im looking for some help in figuring out some things for a wyoming hunt next fall. i will be driving out from maryland with some family to try our hand at a mule/antelope hunt. i have done alot of research on my own to best of my abilities, i have a good understanding of how it all works with PP and drawing odds. i have a GPS hunting maps SD card that i have been playing around with trying to figure out the best places to go. i realize i need to build up some PP to be able to get a good draw, but in the meantime im looking to go this fall and try things out a bit. i found that Region J & ant unit 30 overlap in area and seasons, has about the same public land as any other 100% draw area (not much). now curious if anyone has hunted these areas and if the public/WIA & HMA are enough area even worth trying, or should i look into paying a trespass fee if possible. also curious if Medice Bow & larmaie peak area near southern part of unit 65 are worth a shot for a muley. will probly be going at the end of the season. not looking to bag any monsters, just looking for a little advice to make the trip better. thanks for any help

I can only comment on

I can only comment on antelope area 30 as I hunted there this year. I actually drew 2 of the HMA's in the unit. We did not get there until the season had been open over a week already. We did not see even one antelpe in either of them. The walk in areas we did not check out ourselves but talked to others that only saw one or two animals in several days of hunting them.

We had private that we paid a fee to hunt on or would have had no luck at all. And even than it was pretty tough hunting there this year with very low herd numbers.

First time hunting area 30 and probably will try not to again. Maybe in an emergency as there is always leftover tags.

thanks for your reply, just

thanks for your reply, just curious how did you go about getting access to the private land, also how large was it and what is an average price to expect to pay

If I remember right it was

If I remember right it was 15,000 acres or so. If you contact the local game office which in this case is Casper they will provide you with a landowner list of people you can call. Sometimes the cost is almost nothing and sometimes extreme. $200+ is normal though. In the past I was told by other hunters this was a great area. Just not this year due to weather conditions. The ranch we hunted on saved our hunt but was still less than desired and they allowed too many hunters. And although we saw many deer they didn't allow hunting them other than family members as they said the herd needed to rebuild, And we saw more deer than lopes.lol
