I have used 180 gr. partitions and barnes triple shock in the past but I am now thinking about switching over to the accubond. I am in the process of checking availability at the local stores. I liked the partitions the least because of meat damage and tips deforming but they all ended in dead deer, bear, and moose. I only shot one deer with the barnes and they performed better in my opinion(less meat damage but smaller holes)
The .270 flat shooting and enough power for deer and everything else around here. I'm going to go hide from the 270 haters now!
I got you back bnow0707. I like it for its distance and knock down power. Also like it when hunting thick cover and shooting through brush better than something lighter, like a 243 and I'm not knocking the 243 its a nice flat shooting caliber.
My new Remington 700 XCR .270 with a Leupold VXIII 3.5-10x40mm B&C reticle.
Great looking gun
what do the nieghbors think of the target on the fence?? ![]()
Partial to the old 45-70 anymore. Like all the old rounds though...easy to shoot. Can't say that about the mags. Have yet to hear any of the boys at work say they ran 50-100rds. through their mags at a sitting.
Now there are some of the old cartridges that were "mags" in their day that I don't think I'd care to sit down to a long string of shooting with. The 45-120 and 50-140 come to mind. ![]()

LOL
I was trying to bore sight it using the target.
i,d have to say i like the 25/06 the best, its super flat shootn and if you can place your bullets were they outa be it,ll kill bout anything, i did just by a 7mm wsm, and i,m really starting to like it, all i,ve shot with it is coydogs, and it turns em inside out, hopefully i,ll get to try it on a monster buck this weekend (season opener here)

My current favorite (I'm strictly an eastern woods hunter) is the Remington Model 7 stainless synthetic, in 7mm-08. I also have a Ruger Deerstalker carbine in .44 Magnum as well as a Ruger Mannlicher in .243, both of which have put down more than a dozen deer. For shotgun counties I use an Ithaca Deerslayer with rifled barrel and Pentax, Lightseeker scope. With the right saboted slugs, this baby can shoot 2" groups at 100 yards.
As I'm now older and a bit closer to the exit than the entrance, I also enjoy going out with a vintage rifle. I recently acquired a mint Winchester 88 in .308. Enjoyed taking it out to the field but didn't get a shot with it.
Savage made some classic deer rifles such as the Model 99 in either 250 or 300 Savage. Unfortunately, Model 99s generally don't group well.
300 WSM and 30-06 followed by the 308 Win
