I am facing the night that I dread every year....The night before opening day of deer season. Our Black Hills rifle season opens November first. All of the scouting is done and it's time to see if all our efforts will pay off. My girlfriend has been my hunting partner for the last 6 years. Before that, she didn't hunt, so I am dealing with a fairly new hunter. We are both over 50, but she still gets excited about hunting like a teenager. I say I have created a monster, but it's a nice kind of monster to have....lol.
We have scouted our usual area to hunt and have even set up a couple of mock scrapes since the deer have been showing signs of early rut. I was lucky enough to be able to get out opening morning at least for a little while. We have seen some of the best animals, size-wise, that we have seen in several years. We each have a large buck that we plan to hunt. Hopefully we can end our season early, but we have until the end of the month to fill our tags.
We have also been given some tips on other areas by a guide friend of ours. We are hoping that this will be one our most successful season yet.
The anticipation is KILLING me
