Like others here words seem to fail me. I can't imagine the depth of your loss.

You have my deepest sympathy for the loss your family has suffered. God will look over you and your departed, this I am certain of.
PFC Shawn Murphy will be in my prayers along with his family and fellow soldiers.

I am so sorry ex.

Wow - my heart broke when I read your post. There are no words that can take away your pain but please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you for the sacrifice your son made so that we could be free.

Well Ex, your posts have been the funniest I have read here, now this is the saddest I've read. If Shawn was anything like a chip off the 'ole block, I'm sure he is someone I would have appreciated and enjoyed.

Thanks, everyone, for all the support. It's very humbling. As far as sense of humor goes, Bit, you have no idea.

Twenty years ago, Santa brought four year-old Shawn a handmade wooden hobby horse. He proudly showed it off to me, told me its name, and gave me a guided tour of all of his new friend's features. When he got to the long tail made out of yarn, he stroked it and lovingly commented about it, but then said that it was too long and that he was going to get a pair of scissors and cut it shorter.

In my best imaginative voice for a four year-old, I asked, "Are you sure? He might not like that...don't you think it'll hurt him?"

In response, he looked up at me, rolled his eyes, and with as much "are you stupid" condescension as a boy his age could muster, said, "Dad, it's NOT a real horse."

God bless you and your family and know that Shawn now looks down from a much better place and that the world he left behind is a much better place because of his role.
