Wolf Tags In Sask, Can It Be TRUE ??

I hear stories of saskatchewan going to have wolf tags available in the fall of 2010 Thumbs up . I can't wait to see if its true. We have lots of wolves here, and not many will get harvested because of the terrain ,but it will generate some extra cash in license sales.

I spent about 15 minutes

I spent about 15 minutes looking for some information that might indicate that there will be wolf permits given in Saskatchewan, but was not able to turn up anything for sure. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong spot - it's a pretty big web!

I did come across a few articles that mentioned increased concern by ranchers that the wolves were harassing and killing their livestock.

I hope they do allow some to be taken, as they can quickly become a serious problem to wildlife and livestock, as well as a threat to humans if they are allowed to get out of control.

So Far It's Just Talk

There has been talk for a year now about wolf tags, but so far they have not come through. Would be nice for the DNR to have some extra cash flow, cuz lots would buy tags but few would ever see a wolf.

Wolves

Here are some pics of a wolf shot in a guys yard in sask. It was looking for a free calf. It was shot near abbey sk in 2010. The area is not known at all for wolves it is mostly farmland and pasture. There are even getting to be a lot of wolves just north of where i live, but there is a lot more bush here.

trapper's lic

This is dated, but I don't think its changed since wolf isn't listed in the hunting summary. "Back in the day" to legally take a wolf in SK you needed to be a licenced trapper, and to hold a furbearer licence you need to be a resident. A furbearer licence restricted to using a .22 (I never actually heard of that being enforced, since most "real" trappers I knew carried a 30-30 and a stout club) except if you also held a valid licence and tag for big game during the big game season.
