Romey,
you trying to understand what we are up against in BC with preditor control is not going to happen...
In Answer to your question Romey I actually guided US hunters for over 150 days in the field last year. Plus over 1 .5 mounths cutting trail and building cabins in the bush and 6 weeks of Trapping on my registered line.So without displaying the number of Wolves that I removed from my Guide Territory I would say that I have put the time in speak from experience.
My point is clear.Even with very liberal hunting & trapping seasons , you cannot over harvest Wolves. Our habitat does not allow for it.
I don't want to see Wolves wiped out , but that won't happen anyway. You can't have anymore liberal season than in BC.
Like it or not Alberta is coming around and have implimented a agressive Wolf program...Unfortunalty this is not a good venue to discuss it. BC is coming around and the Yukon and N.W.T.
This is based on science...even the Leif lickers argree that it is needed to restore the Woodland Caribou.
The Caribou habitat that you said is being encrouched by humans is high elavation alpine and is certanily not being developed. There is a few issues with snowmobilers and logging below , but these are not the main reasons for decline.
Sounds like your OK with what the Wolves are doing with your game populations...so great, you don't have a problem. In Fact I would like to sell some more at 30,000 apiece. lol
However, I make my living off Big game animals and I will keep doing my part and lobby our goverment for more liberal hunting and trapping seasons.
