Wolf Pack in West Central Colorado?

This hit the news a few weeks ago, but the Denver Post has an article up today:

The High Lonesome is near De Beque and the research is being done by a private biologist. I guess they are waiting on DNA samples from the scat to verify the existence of wolves.

Heard about this a while back too, and hoped it was a rumor. I hope the scat and tracks turns out to be wild dogs.

Heck, if it turns out to indeed be wolves, maybe they'll trek over the mountains and wreak some havoc on the eastern slope too! Lots of Fifis & Foofoos to snack on over there. Thumbs up I'm sure those folks wouldn't mind doing their part in helping the wolves survive!

It is more than a rumor. A friend has some property up there on Kimbell Creek and it was confirmed that the scat was from a wolf. One of them has even see one but wasn't sure if it was a wolf or not.

Great, Just what we need more wolves...they are a disease. If any of you are on facebook go the the Eastman Journal page. You may have to scroll down a ways but, a snowmobiler took a pic of 20 wolves in one pack north of Jackson Hole. He also stated that the federal refuge were they used to feed thousands of elk had zero elk. angry banghead

IDFG has tracked wolves with radio collars into Eastern Oregon, Southeast Washington, Colorado, and Utah. Whether or not they has taken up residency is only a matter of time till they occupy all of Idaho’s surrounding states. I’m glad we are now able to hunt wolves however I don’t think the 160 or so killed so far in Idaho will have much impact on slowing them down.

I have only hunted elk in Oregon and Idaho. Now I’ve applied to Utah and Wyoming for the first time this year for elk. I’ll still hunt elk in Idaho cause it’s cheap and close but the first bull tag I get in another state I’ll be happy to chase the big one in another state than Idaho. Idaho still has some good elk hunting but it’s declining fast!

I don't understand why the ranch hasn't invited out some of the government biologists to verify the private biologists work. Why the need for secrecy?

Re: Wolf Pack in West Central Colorado?

We have had them here in Colorado for over 10 years, it's just a matter of time before some packs get going. More hunters report hearing them or seeing them every year. We are also going to start getting them from the South as New Mexico and AZ wolves move north. The one female that was road killed by Idaho Springs, CO was way back in 1996 or so.
