Wonsky, whereabouts are you located? I'll travel darn near anywhere to call coyotes. Been doing it seriously for 16 years. The population here on the Miramichi seems to be stable. Visited a dozen areas in the past two weeks and howled. Responses were about the same as other years. There were a few small pockets of private land where family packs have moved in, but nothing spectacular......certainly not like the early '90's when 'yotes seemed to be in everyone's backyard. Haven't done the Plaster Rock yet.

All this mild weather and lack of snow certainly isn't going to make those critters come trotting right in though. The best coyote calling/hunting I've ever had was in weather that made me think I must be nuts to be out here!

What is the best way to bait. I thought of putting out some meet from the boutcher shop and sit in an old deer stand and wait. Will this work?

It will.....but it may take some time for the coyotes to become comfortable. The smell of beef and pork is something they relate to human activity.

I usually start a baitsite with beaver carcasses.....then as the season progresses and I need more bait, I'll get some from the butcher....usually works well. But I don't hunt over my baits....only snare.....just a personal choice.

Make sure your treestand is well brushed in or whatever to hide any movement. Even if you are a hundred yards away and twenty feet up, they'll still see movement. And white camo up a tree...lol....doesn't work Shame on You! . Been there, done that....bought the t-shirt Big smile .
