WINCHESTER M70 EXTREME WEATHER SS

I AM CONSIDERING BUYING A CURRENT-PRODUCTION
WINCHESTER MODEL 70 EXTREME WEATHER SS
IN 30-06. THESE HAVE A BELL & CARLSON COMPOSITE
STOCK. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH
ONE OF THESE RIFLES, IN ANY CALIBER? PRO OR
CON? ACCURACY OF PARAMONT IMPORTANCE.

Re: WINCHESTER M70 EXTREME WEATHER SS

FN USA, who currently makes the new production Model 70s seems to make more of a big deal out of how well polished the outside of their barrels are as opposed to the quality of the rifling inside thier barrels. That's the info I gathered from watching about FN on the M70 on an episode of American Rifleman TV. Having said that FN does make some pretty accurate and high quality military firearms. For the Model 70 I think FN only makes the barrels themselves then assembles the rifle in their production facility from other parts made by 2nd party contractor companies. Beyond that I cannot speak fairly about the new production Model 70s except that they are overpriced compared to the earlier rifles that used to be made by USRAC in New Haven. I've been happy with my New Haven built Winchester Model 70 rifles.

I own the new winchester model 70 extreme stainless in 300wsm the rifle is a gem and a tack driver.Easily shoots moa or less at 1oo yards.the rifle has many new features, barrel is free floated in aluminum bedding block, new moa trigger, from factory breaks at 3 1/2lbs.with no creep ,overtraveland takeup, made of stainless steel. fully adjustable down to three pounds.stock is a bell and carlson.controlled round feed as pre 64 had ,andpachmayer recoil pad gunhas perfect balance and weighs in at 6 3/4lbs.I own sako, remington ,kimbers, and have ordered the winchester sporter, super grade, coyote light to add to the gun vault,Fn is turning out outstanding rifles, made here at there facility in Columbia ,South carolina.I urge all of you to check out the winchester site and see for yourselfs.Chuck hawks, the owner of guns and shooting on line gave the winchester super grade his top reward saying" we regard it as the finest model 70 production rifle ever made."

Welcome to BGH Vlad Dracule!

FN has been building rifles for a long long time and have a good reputation. Actually I'd be hard pressed to say anyone makes a bad rifle today. There are some I don't care to look at but I'd bet their good rifles.

Darn nice rifles for whatever my opinion is worth. I'd buy one in a second.

My brother hunts with one in 300WSM and although the stock looks cheap IMHO, the rifles shoots excellent and seems to be well made.

I'd be interested in what you think of that caliber after you have used it some (.325wsm). Be sure and post about it to let us know... Wink

Take care, and enjoy.
