Into the Wild - travel channel TV show

Anybody else watching "Into the Wild" ?

Its sort of a hunting Man vs. Wild like show focused on a guy with a theme of hunting, fishing, and trapping all the meat his family eats.  He seems to have the proper respect for the animals and his head on straight about hunting in my opinion.

a few episodes

I've seen a few episodes - Alaska, Alberta, somewhere out west (Missouri?) talking about Lewis and Clark, and Hawaii.  The guy has money behind him judging by the gear he uses and all the travel he is doing, but he is down to earth enough that you can still identify with him.  He doesn't do everything exactly as I would do it, but it's still worth watching in my opinion.

I didn't realize he traveled

I didn't realize he traveled around. I just assumed he was living in one spot and trying to live off the land.

I'll check it out as soon as I can but if he's traveling and hunting all over I might get to jealous to keep watching. Big smile

I haven't watched "Into the

I haven't watched "Into the Wild", but has anyone seen "Out of the wild"????  I only saw the last few episodes of the first season, Alaska, but it was pretty cool.  They were shooting ducks, squirrels, whatever they could to survive.

Kinda like survivor, but they don't stay put.  They need to make their way out to civilization.

If they can't hack it, they have a personal locator they can push and a chopper will come pick them up.

The next season starts soon, and is in Venezuela.  I'm gonna watch it, I think.  It starts Feb 17th.

saw it

Cool.  I watched "out of the wild" and enjoyed it but found myself shouting advice at the stupid people on TV a LOT.  I'll keep an eye out for the next season.  Thanks for letting us know.

Definitely check out "Into the wild" if you get the chance.  Last episode was beaver trapping and moose hunting in Canada.  Thumbs up

The Wild Within

GroovyMike, I think you are talking about the show "The Wild Within".  I like the show and its host Steven Rinella.  I read his book, "The Scavenger's Guide to Haute Cuisine" which is pretty good too.

Yep, that is exactly what I was talking about.

This week’s episode (at least the one that I watched) was about a trip to Guyana where he tried bow hunting game, birds, and fish.  The native hunters who lived there out shot him with their traditional bows over his compound bow and carbon arrows.  I thought it was great that Steve recognized and made a point of saying that where he comes from in the civilized world he is considered a pretty hardy outdoorsman but compared to these “hard” men who actually hunt for their food day to day, he (Steve) is soft in comparison.

I didn't know that he wrote anything.  I might have to check it out.

Thanks for the heads up.
