wild hogs in western Colorado?

In looking up a map for a thread in the Southern section, I found one that included Colorado and it shows a spot on the western slope that supposedly has wild hogs. Does anyone know where this might be? On the map it looks like its just a bit south and west of Rifle. Can't zoom in for good detail.

Just curious....

There is a private high fence ranch in that area that has some hogs I think that it was around Colburn. I believe that it was last year that they tried to truck some in that were had some sort of virus and was in the papers.

Yes it is up around Colbran (unit 421). They had several escape, but I can't tell you if they have all been killed yet. I have been told by the CDOW that any exotic that is escapes is fair game and you can kill it on the spot.

Hendrix (the Discovery guy) down in Gateway had several Fallow deer escape and were shot on public lands.

Good luck and good hunting!

I do remember hearing about hogs in the southern and southeastern portion of Colorado, but I don't recall of any in the middle western section.

Critter, if these hogs are indeed in a high fence operation, then they don't qualify as feral hogs and shouldn't be on a feral hog map. If they escaped that's bad too. All we need is those wild hogs to make it to the orchards on the western slope. What a mess that would be.

There is a lot of talk about what is considered a feral hog as a true wild boar. There have been a couple of shows on the Discovery Channel I believe on them with the researchers taking DNA samples from ones that they catch to try and match them up to European wild boars. I don't remember all of the particulars of what went on with this guy in Colburn but I do remember that he was trying to truck in some of the wilder critters from out of state when they caught him. I don't remember just where I read it weather it was on the DOW site or a news channel. I checked both but couldn't find any information about them.
