pigs

They have been spreading from what I hear. I hope to get some access this spring with luck, they are out there. Anyone have any more info? I haven't seen any sign on state land the few times I tried. I would think snowmobilers would be seeing some signs in the cornfields torn up up on the hills.

Wild Boars / Pigs in New York State

Hi Guys, been it's a while. Sorry no pictures yet Slickrock.
Well deer season is over so I went down to the town of Scott about three weeks ago. There is snow up to your ---- , you know where. I did follow a good size porker track / trench in the snow for a long ways. It was relatively easy walking in his track . I think it was at least a day old but still interesting to follow. I left the track when it crossed posted property and I headed down into the open hardwoods . That was a big mistake without snowshoes . I now realize how out of shape I am. About three hours later I made it out to the road in knee to waist high snow. No fun!
It was still a good day and the porkers are still down there . I wish the local farmers would let hunters on there land. I think they are listening to the state right now , with there trapping program . I feel in a few years they will be begging hunters to help control the population. Time will tell. Jim

PS; How's things going Adkbear?

It is all good Jim. Still got a job and we got fishable ice on the finger lakes. No pigs for me I'm looking for Tiger Muskys.

Brett, you might want to try the farmers on Coldbrook road. I guess they had a lot of crop damage last year.

Hello all, I'm new in this forum but have read some of your info on local pigs in the Scott area. Been out there on Hewitt rd, area and saw tracks a while back but not lately. Looks like other people are in the area hunting and baiting too. I'll be checking some new areas and keep you guys posted. Good luck out there.

Please keep us posted Sniper. I think in an area with such a low population baiting sure would increase your odds . I know if I were a local and wanted one bad enough ,I would have a bait pile. jgn
