Who Told The Deer ????

Gunslinger, where are you headed for your goat? You said "wilderness" area -- made me think of Bob Marshall & Mission Mtns. I've never hunted goats, and most of my experience with them was through working in Glacier Park for two summers. I'm curious -- what altitudes are you typically finding them at this time of year, what range constitutes a "typical" shot, and what type of rifle and ammo do you prefer for this?

Gunslinger, disregard the "where" portion of my previous question -- just saw your other posts on the Rockies board and found 133 on the F&G map. That don't look like playing -- that looks like work. I've never been in there personally, but I had a buddy once that hiked in to the Chinese Wall. Do you have horses, or are you on foot?

Expatriate: I've got horses but have been leaving them at home. We could only take them in so far, then we would have to leave them unattended. So its been on foot, about 14 miles each way. I've been hunting the rock faces and ridge tops about 8 to 9000 feet. Its been alot of fun just haven't got a goat yet. better hurry up winter is coming. Flew over the area yesterday to check on things all snowed covered now air temp was -10 and the snow was just blowing off the ridges BUT the sun was out  I've wore out all my hunting partners  My youngest daughter has been going but she is getting behind at school. my hunting partner steve is off hunting elk and my sweet wife said she wanted to go last weekend. I warned her to get a goat have to be a goat. Anyway she sliped on a shale slope slid to the bottom and split her head open. There is always this weekend. I'll keep you posted.

Gunslinger:
I 'bout cried reading the post. Weather here's been in the 70s, and they say lows could dip into the 30s this weekend, so they're running pieces on the news about how hard the cold is on the poor and the importance of winterizing your house! Give me a break!

Sound like you've got a great family. Sorry to hear about your wife; hope she's OK. But if a person's going to split their head open, I can't think of a better place in the world to do it than on a shale slope in the Bob. Sure beats splitting it open trying to fix a leak under the kitchen sink. LOL.

Heh, heh, that's funny.

Yeah MT does have more than a few notables on the who's who list for anti-government militant bomb-makers.
