Who Told The Deer ????

Today is the opening day of general rifle for deer and elk here in Montana. On any other day of the year we would have a good 20 head of whitetail in the yard but today not one. Growing up my dad use to tell me that the game dept. would tell the animals the season dates. I didn't use to belive him

I know what you mean. I've been tripping over big bucks until rifle season started. Now I see them running 600-700 yds away.

In this computer age deer have plenty of resources to stay 1 step ahead of the hunter.

Yeah, Jennings, I have been stumped enough times over the years to wonder who has the more advanced technology.

I'm with your dad on that one, Gunslinger. By the way, when do you go for your goat tag?

Bitmaster: I've been out almost every weekend for the last several weeks. Just haven't got one yet. But with the colder weather the hair should be getting longer. Been having a blast, not working just out playing  But I better get with it started snowing last night, winter is almost here !!! I'll keep you posted on the mighty goat hunt

Sounds good Gunslinger, keep plugging man, can't let that BIG BILLY get away after 25 years!

Have to say I'm a bit jealous of your all play and no work though. Wink

Alright Montana, Colorado, and crew. Don't talk to me about elk and goats. I'm a Montanan currently being held here in Alabama against my will by my occupation. There ain't an elk or non-milkable goat within hundreds of miles. And as for mountains -- I hear tell there's actually a ski resort here that opens if the weather gets cold enough that boasts a 150 foot vertical elevation change. I'm getting a pretty good idea of why Sherman burned everything.

Good luck with the hunts. I it makes you feel any better, there's one less guy in Montana chasing your animals this year. Wish I was there!

Ah...the expatriate handle revealed. Your an MT expatriate!

Watch that Sherman comment, there are some confederates on the board that will hunt you down and kill you....

Well there are no hills, no mulies, and no elk in AL, but I hear the whitetail hunting is great!

Yeah, they say the whitetail hunting is great, but I'm not the kind of guy to maintain a bait pile and go sit on it on opening day. I miss the National Forest and BLM land, too. This is my first year here, and should be the last.

As for the Sherman comment, I've got a buddy down here that thinks Sherman was the Spawn of Satan, and I get to rib him quite a bit on it. I keep thanking providence that he hasn't really put two and two together yet and catalogued Montana's roster -- Ted Kaczynski, the Freemen, Church Univeral and Triumphant, the Fondas...
