Who has lots of nerve ?

A few years back when on my coyote run .I came across a skunk in one of my #3 coils . It was all wraped around a small fir tree . After looking at it for a few mins. and it looked pretty calm with my presences . I decided to release it . In very slow motion I got behind the tree and slowly reached around the tree and got hold of the trap at which time the skunk put it's nose on my finger . I gently pressed the springs down and very gently shook it 's foor out of the trap . It just stood there and I remained motionless behind the tree .Then when it realized it was free . It just waddled off and I left oder free .LOL This was all done in EXTREAMELY SLOW MOTION . Things could have got smelly had I spooked it ,I have caught in the area of 100 nusance skunks in box traps . taken them to the bush and just dump them out at my feet .I don't move and when they get their bearings they just trot of Never 1 sprayed .

Caught several skunks in live traps back in the day. It is a little unnerving to say the least

We got over run with skunks here one time and caught the in have-a-heart traps. Held an old tarp in front of us and dropped it over the trap. Then picked up the whole thing and dumped it in a water trough. At that time, they were the #1 carrier of rabies in the country.

I caught one in a live trap that was covered with ticks .I mean it was covered . They are one of the worst animals for carring diseases . Or the worst !!!!

lots of nerne

They really don't have any preditors . Only the trapper . There was a store in town where I live and the manager was a friend of mine . She called me one time in Febuary and said she had a skunk under the store . It sprayed under there and she lost about $200.00 worth the chocolate bars . I thought skunks should be hibernating in Feb , I went up to see for my self and sure enough there was a trail coming out from under the store . I set it up an took 11 skunks from under there in Febuary. Not far from there I took 23 of a friend's doorstep ..These were all in box traps .

We get skunks show up in the dead of winter if we get a warm spell. They are not true hibernators and will go for little walk abouts. Same goes for raccoons. I caught one last year in February in the dead of winter in a lynx set. Old battle scared male with half his tail missing and his ears were froze off.

Skunks, if caught in the applicable size of live trap, can't spary you because they can't get their tail up. We catch them all the time on our ranch near the home site in live traps, where we can't use regular killing traps. I have a stock watering tank that I fill up and I just drop the whole trap in and drown them. That is the way the local game wardens get rid of them as well.

There tends to always be too damn many of them and they are a nuisance. Just about nobody can be bothered to trap them at current fur prices for skunk and they are always gettin into stuff. Besides the potential for rabies, they are very hard on game bird nests.
