whining....

Why is it that we can have weekends free for months it seems until hunting season opens then there are conflicts – my son wants to bag his first turkey. I am confident we can do it if we can get time to hunt. But with New York’s season from Sunrise until only noon evening hunts are out and that means that hunting on weekdays just isn’t possible with work and school obligations in the morning. Going to church means that Sunday morning hunting is out. That leaves only Saturday for morning hunts. Just one day a week. And that is when the school schedules my son’s baseball games. (sigh).

I remember long ago when I

I remember long ago when I was in high school and wanted to go hunting.  The coaches told me that I had to choose one or the other since both didn't work out too well due to seasons.  Well, I got lucky since the football games were on a Friday night and I could still go hunting on Saturday and Sunday.  Even when I was playing basketball and the games were on Saturday I made it to the game after hunting in the morning.  In the long run a person need to figure out what is the most important thing for them to do.  But one thing you can tell you boy is that sports don't last forever but being out in the field and hunting can.

oh that's rough

That would be a rough choice for a yong man!  If we miss a few days that's one thing, but to try to make a choice between hunting and not that just isn't going to happen.  Hunting is part of life, like eating.  I can't see it going away entirely....

Neither of my kids

Neither of my kids participated in sports too much other than a couple of seasons of hickey for my son when he was only 11 and 12. It cut into our hunting a little but we worked it out and now the only thing that gets in the way is work. Fortunately I make my own schedule and also have the most seniority at my job so can usually get what I need. I rarely take weekends off so when I do need them no one complains as I give them to everyone else the rest of the year.

My sons work schedule is a little tougher but I adjust mine to line up with his when needed. All in all I have been very fortunate when it comes to having the time needed. I just don't make enough money to use the time to the best advantage.
