I would start applying in all the states that you can. Many states require points to get into the draw, so I'd start now and in 10 or so years you might be blessed with a tag. Idaho & New Mexico doesn't have a points system yet, so you would be on even playing ground with all the other Non-Resident hunters.

If you are really interested in hunting sheep what I would suggest is to start a hunting account. Talk to a investment company and tell them what you want to do and when you plan to do it. Then start putting a few dollars into it each month then ten years down the road you should have enough to really go sheep hunting by hiring an outfitter to get you into them.

A do it yourself hunt is nice but if you don't have the time to put in the leg work to find the animals and only have a short time to hunt them when you draw a tag you just may end up watching a lot of rocks roll down the hillside with no sheep.

I personally know of 5 hunters here in Colorado that have been putting in for sheep for the last 10-15 years and every year they get the refund on there application. Then again I know of a hunter in Utah that is the luckiest hunter that I have ever known. What ever he puts in for he draws out either the first time or with the minimum number of points needed. He also has a grand slam of North American sheep witch he did in less than 10 years. It is all in the luck of the draw.

Just an FYI when I was 25 years old I started a hunting account by buying into a mutual fund and putting in a $1000.00 every year. Now 30 years later it is paying off in that I can now pretty much go hunt what ever I want when I want to and that includes guided hunts. Hunting is getting expensive and isn't going to get any cheaper in the years to come.

nevada has the most nuber of big horns other than alaska. we have 3 spieces rocky mountain big horn, nelson desert big horn and californa big horn. all across the state, i have herd of people drawing big horn tags in the first year, not very often but it has happend , a freind of mine got his tag in three years of drawing for it. in nevada you can purches bonus points each season its $10 a point, im not shure if its the same for non residents but i dont think you have to by a license to get a bonus point. a non res big horn sheep tag is $1,200 and non res need to use a guide servise thats the downer they arent chep ether. but we have a bunch of them i see them all the time out chucker hunting, there magnificent animals. hopes this helps you
