Which gun?

Go with what you shoot best and practice in hunting positions. Most guys can't hit a bear in the ass with a scoop shovel, and then they think they can drop an elk at the sit out to 200. Most guides will tell you to bring what you are comfortable with not something that some gun writer said he uses.

Which gun?

Stillhunter, I have used the 270 Winchester a few times in hunting, shooting and killing smaller bull elk as well as a 6 x 6 that got away, do to poor bullet performance. Long story!

I would opt for the 30-06 and use those 180 grain premium bullets and never look back, they will get the job done to distances you can't imagine. I wittnessed a hunter kill a 5 x 5 bull at a range of 447 yards in Wyoming one year. I was giving the distance and hold over to that very hunter with my Bushnell range finder.

A 180 grain Nosler partition Gold or TBBC bullet and lets not forget those Swift A Frames either. All are great bullets for big game like elk at far out distances. Big smile

I agree! I stopped reading most hunting magazines because of the way these gun writers are these days. They always make you feel like what you're carrying is obolete and hence, ineffective.
