Nice job on the hunt! Pretty cool to stick an elk on your first trip out in 7 years. I liked the self portrait too. I've tried do self portraits before and they always turn out pretty bad. Have a great deer season too.

Well, I just have to say...I feel like I've really been blessed this year. I shot my first archery bull elk and my first rifle bull elk this year! Both 5 points! I'm a real believer in the BDC from Nikon and premium bullets. It went through his front shoulder and down through the entire body cavity at 575 yards!
Hunting is not usually a pursuit where instant gratification abounds. It takes a lot of time, practice, resources and patience to be a successful hunter. So when someone decides that an area they hunted only once without taking an animal is worthless and devoid of game, I don't quite understand it. These people usually jump from game management unit to game management unit; trying a new one every year.
Now don't get me wrong, there are people that just enjoy scouting and hunting...
