buyersm66......if the bears in this area are your average 300 pounder or less, your 44 magnum is quite adequate. However, if you are loking at the 300 to 500 lb. range I would definitely go with your .303 British. Good Luck!

Both calibers are good choices. But to be sure that you have absolute penetration through shoulder bones, vitals I would go with the .303

The 303 for sure. I have personally seen the end result of the 303 brit. and it is way ahead of the 44 mag. Rifle cartridge vs. handgun cartridge.

.303 is the only gun i use for bear use it with a 180gr powerpoint

maybe you should look at buffalo bore ammo and cor-bon for your .44 that fit your rifle and if you get serious you may want some superior custom loaded .303

Thanks guys. I have decided to go with my .303. Even though I'll be relatively close I like the idea of a flatter shooting rifle. We'll see how it turns out the second week of September.

It will turn out to be a dead bear if you are given the chance. Good luck with the 303. Have confidence in knowing that you DO have a very capable rifle in your hands. It is probably the most used calibre for hunting moose in NFLD. Bears are no harder to kill than a 800-1000lb moose.

.303 is an excellent choice all around i have no doubt that .303 wont let you down have a good hunt.
