If you haven't gone more than a few times.....and expect to be successful.....hire an outfitter and the guide. You might try reading some of the good books on it . They all state the obvious,if you live it and hunt it every year, the average success rate is ...12% It is not like the videos, unless you pay for a guide and privacy. And even then any guide worth spit will tell you right off " No Garuntee's". Good luck and good hunting!

Sorry Henry but that's not true for a limited entry unit. You can very easily guide yourself on a limited entry hunt and have success.

The 12% you speak of would be true for a general OTC tag.

I agree that the limited units have better success, but a novice still would have a tough go.IMHO And I'm still waiting on a limited elk hunt in UT. I figured he was talking about going in green and coming out with BC bull, and the reality is it isn't called shopping, limited or gen. over the counter. Just my opine.

Oh I agree that there are no guarantees especially on a BC bull....I'm just saying your odds are much much better than 12% in a limited entry unti that's all.

A little late for this year ,but a good chance on a nice bull,on public land can be had in New Mexico, among many other places. Try to draw through an outfitter and it will increase your odds of drawing.
