Since I am new here I'll stir the pot a little. What is wrong with using dogs to hunt with where it is legal? There have been lots of time that I wished that I could use one to help me find a downed animal or to push them out of a thicket.

I won't get into the past topic, but I will say Hunter 777 is one of the most educated and dedicated hunters I've ever had the pleasure to be around. He and a buddy from PA came down here to KS to do some deer hunting on our family farms last fall, and I can say he has a spot here to hunt/trap anytime. Just because one idiot has a problem with him don't let it tarnish his good character. Anyone would be lucky to have Hunter in their camp!
Keep up the post good buddy, I'll back you up!! Thumbs up

Welcome to BGH. Your question might belong on a different subject thread on this forum. But since you asked - I myself see nothing wrong with using dogs for hunting at all. For bear, mountain lion, etc. For birds, upland and waterfowl, they are a true blessing to have and nessesary in a great many instances. Dozens of breeds have been introduced over the centuries specifically for hunting various types of game animals. Many of those breeds have become extinct, yet a great many survive today as common household pets with the masses unaware of what that dogs ansestory was originally bread for in an era long ago and in a land far away.

There isn't anything wrong with dog hunting. It is a very enjoyable and rewarding sport.
As Redrider pointed out there are just a couple nimrods that dislike the use of dogs for whatever reason and decided to harass hunter777, one in particular seemed to look for his post and then attack him.
I have never met hunter777 personally but he has been a stand up guy on here and has some very good post.
I, myself, hunted Deer and Hogs with dogs for many, many years but it had gotten so expensive that I finally gave it up. Still and Stand hunting is great for me now but there will always be that love for running the hounds during a hunt.
Go to the Southern section and read all the Dog Hunting related topics, and you'll quickly see what I am talking about,

Funny how nobody has a problem using dogs for waterfowl or upland birds, but yet a lot of people have a problem using them for big game. What's the difference?

This is a cultural/regional issue -- I've lived and hunted in enough places to know better than to believe my preferred hunting methods are the universal standard.

I know for me personally, its just a lack of time. Ive been working part time for a large sporting goods store, in addition to my full time job. Funny how even though babies are small it seems like they end up costing quite a bit. Anyways I usually try to check in at least to see whats new.
