Where are the deer this time of year?

I've always kinda hated to see gun season come around because it seems like the deer disappear once they've been shot at for a while....big wonder. But where do they go? I've always heard that they go to the thick stuff to hide but I still don't have much luck jumping them up this time of year. I even try wading through the thickets but the deer are nowhere, its like they've went underground. Do they just spend all day and night bedded down in thickets and not move? How long does it take for them to return to pre-gun season habits? How do you hunt them at this time?

I don't think they change their habit that much, but are far more cautious. Comming into an orchard for a feed of apples five minutes before dark or right at darkness is the difference between life and death. They come to eat,you just don't see them.
I've hunted for over forty years and every time I figure the deer out, they change the rules again. Think Think Think

Ahhh a timeless question "where do they go"? Think Think Think

Under high hunting pressure they run and hide and run and hide untill they find a hiding spot that no one chases them out of. Where that spot may be???? If you find it be ready to shoot fast because they will not slowly stand up and strech before they prance away.

I don't see alot of deer after a gun season, and in my small little mind I think that they've ALL been shot , but they always show up next bow season! If I was be'n shot at , I'd go run and hide too!

They are there....somewhere. They don't just disapear. This late in the season they hold real tight. You may have to nearly step on them to make them get up and run. The ones that get up and run are already shot. The ones that hold tight are still holding tight. That's OK though because we need to save some for next year.
