When to scout?

Well fall bear season is almost over here in Oregon and shamefully I missed the whole thing this year. Just wanted to ask any of you guys up here in the NW. (Particularly BTKR), if you see this when is the best time to start scouting for spring bear. Season starts in 3 short months! I won't miss that one!

If you have time, and can get into the area, I would start now. There are still a few bears roaming around and this snow will help you locate them. I would look for potentially thick and secluded drainages. Look for the right age timber if they are peeling trees in the area and other spring food sources.

You might be able to combine this scouting with some coyote hunting.
Good luck.

Thanks for the input BTKR! Sorry I called you out by name. Just been grasping straws for information from another NW hunter. Most guys around here are still hung up on the days of hound hunting. I read your article on calling, great stuff. Kinda new to Bear hunting. Thanks again! Thumbs up
