WHATS THE BEST GAUGE FOR PARTRIDGE(RUFFED GROUSE)

The 20 is all I've ever used over the years. They're lighter and therefore faster to throw up. I have a Charles Daly side x side with IC and Mod chokes and even though my wing shooting aint the best in the world at times, I find just one or two pieces of No 6 will knock them down when hit at close range.

I have an old bolt action, J.C. Higgins 16 gauge I really like, but my 12 gauge mossberg is my workhorse. you can by small enough rounds to equal a smaller gauge and you can move up when necessary. Rounds are cheap and widely available.

There isn't a "best" gauge. Use What fits you best.

I agree with most people on here that the biggest factor is whatever one you shoot the best & like carrying the most.

I do use a 12 gauge O/U Browning Citori with a 24 inch barrel though, and I love the versatility that you can have with shot size, chokes, etc. I typically go with a more open choke & a size 8 shell for my first barrel and then a 6 or 7 with a bit tighter choke for the 2nd.

The Upland Hunter has a great article on this if you are interested. I completely agree that the debate about proper gauges is kind of a mute point if the gun doesn't fit you right.
