That would be nice but I think there are too many hunters for that.

That would be nice, but that would mean a higher harvest of bucks.

What kind of tags are you allowed right now? By the way it sounds your bucks don't get to be very massive, is that because they don't live long enough to reach maturity or do they just not reach the size like our "corn" fed deer?

I smell what your cook'n,but anyone who buys a hunting lic. in Pa. gets a buck tag and I would guess maybe half of those probly don't get used.....I could be totally wrong, I don't know. The other thing is there's 2or3 bow hunters for every 10 rifle hunters?.....so if every bow hunter harvested a buck it would still not equal as many if every rifle hunter filled there tag.I could be totally wrong.

Is that buck tag good for archery and rifle?

When you get a PA hunting license you only get one buck tag. No matter what season you use to harvest your buck, you only get one. So if you fill your tag during archery season then you don't have a tag for rifle season.

What's up RED! I think it was either 3 or4 yrs ago Pa. passed a law that in the western part of the state the bucks had to have 4 or more points on one side to be harvested, and in the eastern part of the state they only need three on a side.....it's the best thing pa could've done .Befor the law was passed almost all of our bucks were shot before they were two yrs old ,so yes they were small. Here we are three yrs later and I think thing our bucks def. bigger and more abundant than ever before.I think Pa. will produce more and more good bucks(140s/150s)on ave. in the next few yrs.You get one buck tag for bow and rifle together.....that's why I posted whatcha think post,I'm a bigger bow hunter than rifle hunter but I grew up w/the gun so I still do enjoy rifle hunt'n,ask me to choose and I'd throw my gun in the river. If ya shoot one w/the bow ya can't shoot one w/the gun .

Dito to everything you said. I grew up with the rifle, and now love the bow 10 times better. I also agree with everything you said about the PA antler restrictions. Best hunting law yet!!!!

Here in Kansas you can obtain one primary tag that allows you to take a buck, but it is only good for the season you choose. I choose archery, but if I don't fill that tag I don't get to chase them during rifle season. The problem is I like to chase the bigger boys and not uncommon to get skunked. Would be nice if that tag would carry on over into rifle. Kind of stinks ,) For our unit I can also get a game tag which is for antlerless only and can use that in any season. So I chase the bucks during archery and got out with buddies chasin' does during rifle.
I definitely think those antler restrictions are a good idea if you are wanting to produce the bigger deer.

One thing about license in PA Buck forgot to mention is you have to purchase an archery stamp (was 16 extra bux I think when I left) And Yes that Antler restriction was absolutely the best thing PA could have done...Now only if they had a way to really enforce it....Pa doesnt have check stations and they rely on honesty and report cards for thier deer herd reports. I know In the season or 2 I was there after that restriction started I was still seeing alot of morons cracking the lessor bucks... Not much the game commission can do on private lands..Bout the only places they can enforce that is on public lands and post deputies at all the parking lots for them to look over the deer being dragged out...Which they do on a few of them on the first day or 2 of rifle. I personally cant stand check stations ESPECIALLY in the warmer months of first archery because it usually takes a while to not only drive to one but also wait in line to get them checked in and proccessed (meat sittin there cookin) but with all the dishonesty in the damn world I do feel that for good herd management they are a nessessary evil...Alot better than HOPING everyone will be honest and fill out a harvest tag...Course you still have the moron poachers that fail to check them in, but if you set the check stations up properly it will DEFINATLY be a much better improvement over the system they have now...At the present time though Buck....I personally would be against the 2 buck (one for rifle one for archery) for 2 reasons...One is I dont think the buck population (mature) has recovered quite enough for that YET....and the other is the next thing you will hear is WHY ARE YOU NOT ALLOWING THE MUZZLELOADERS THE SAME THING.....Hell they are STILL pissing and moaning over the allowance of the INLINE special season....3/4 of them are crying alligator tears over lettin them use MAXI BALLS and Fiber Optic Open sites for the traditional season and thats been allowed for HOW LONG NOW?
Just my lil ole thoughts on the subject
