I prefer muzzleloading. Lately I have been taking first time hunters so I have rifle hunted the last couple of years. I spend most of my time with a shotgun in my hand hunting over my German Shorthair though.
I am a rifle hunter. Have hunted with lot's of different cartridges and rifles. Not a great preference in rifles but a few cartridges I do prefer. 25-06, 6.5x55, 7x57, 280 Rem and 308 Win. With the exception of the 25-06, I would take on most any animal in North America. Probably the 25-06 would work also but I would view that as a stunt on animals the size of elk and moose.

I go out with a rifle or a traditional bow of some sort.
308 win bolt action with 150gr pill, 4x Leupold and 300wsm bolt action with 180gr pill, 2x-7x leupold.
57 or 67 lb. takedown recurve with carbon arrows, cut on contact and 55 lb. longbow with aluminum arrows, cut on contact.
These typically cover all the bases for the big game hunts I enjoy.
