What the'...Turkey Season Opens on a Sunday?

Someone please explain to me, why?

Why would the Washington Department of Wildlife open the Spring Turkey Season on a Sunday?

Why open the season up, so that your average working sportsman can only hunt part of the first day, having to bail early even on the first day of the season and miss the evening hunt, just so he can drive back across the state, in order to get back to work the next morning?

Please don't tell me that this is to allow the retired folks to really get a better chance to harvest the birds, and chase them all over the county by the next weekend, so that it is all messed up for those of us still working. (You retired fogies have it made!!!)

Here my 8 year old daughter and I wanted to hunt the opener, but with only one day to hunt, and I have to get her back before bedtime, and myself back in order to ready for work monday morning, I will probably not be able to go for this opening weekend. Thanks alot, dept of wildlife. Thanks for skrewing the average working guy.

Currenlty you have the season running from Sunday April 15th thru Thursday May 31st. Instead, you could have opened on the fourteenth, and cut it off on the 30th.

What does a hunter have to do, to get equal chances in this state?

I am listening......

From my understanding they have always had it open April 15th regardless of what day of the week it fell on. I think last year it opened on a Monday, which sucked for us school people and those that work. I agree though, why open on a sunday, that's unheard of. Turkey hunting in WA is increasing, but when the season opens on a ridiculous day that limits people's mobility across the state to only hunt a half day, it may soon begin to decrease. Although maybe the departments way of looking at it is they gave us some extra weeks to hunt so we shouldn't complain too much, although during those extra weeks i have a feeling the birds wont be talking as much, who knows, best of luck to you.
