what rifle would you use in stalking bear in PA.

Have a chance to go bear hunting in PA this November and am wondering if a 30-30 is to small to use when hunting black bear?

What about the 250 Savage?

with all the walking I am looking for something lite to carry. Am a DE. hunter and am looking for some input.

Thanks, Mike

The 30-30 with Hornady Lever Evolution ammo would be minimally sufficent.
I think the 250 Savage is marginal for the conditions I assume you will be hunting in Pa. Something along the lines of a 7mm08 or 308 would be better, If you can handle the recoil.

Ive killed a bear with a 30-06 and a 300 weatherby. All were one shot kills. I do believe a 30-30 will get the job done, but I've hurd stories of bears being shot with a 300 and it took 2-3 shots to kill. The most important thing is shot placement.
