My 700 Mountain Rifle (bought in 1988) does not have a detachable magazine or "clip". It has a hinged floorplate. The newer 700 Mountain Rifles were coming out as only "DM"'s for a little while. Those had the removeable clips with no floorplate. The 700 Mountain LSS that they sell this year is back to the hinged floorplate....no clip. They also sell a 700 KS Mountain out of the custom shop that has a Kevlar stock and a blind magazine...no clip....no hinged floorplate, big $$$$$, low weight. I always thought the DM model would be convenient but it kind of goes against the "lightweight" concept. IMO, the DM was also a little uglier. The Browning clip is hidden by the floorplate and should be "prettier", if that counts for anything. I think the Browning also has a 60 degree bolt throw if that matters to you. All in all, my 700 Mountain is my favorite rifle to carry. Mine is a .280 Rem. I don't own any Brownings so I can't compare them for you.

Hey, $1000 should get you into a very nice weapon. Look at the Savage with the accutrigger and the detachable mag. Way more accurate than the browning and comparable to the Remington. Should be able to get a nice rifle and good quality Leupold to attach to it and still have money left for ammo, sling, bipod, dinner with girl, and gas for the truck. Ok maybe not dinner with the girl!! Dont go cheap on the scope just to have a $700 rifle. You should spend almost as much on the rings, bases, and scope and you do on the rifle itself. Just a word of advice. Good luck.

i didn't know you had to buy a kit for the remington to make it a dbm. canadian thing?. a rem 700 mountain is available in the '06 and has a factory dbm. you should be able to pick one up and a scope for it for less than a grand. and should have enough left over for ammo and a sling.
