What do you spend on avg for hunting each year?

Do firearm purchases count?

I was gonna say `not that much' ... until I remembered I have bought a couple guns this year.

Priceless

You can put a dollar amount on it, but time spent out doors... especially with your children and teaching them how to be responsible hunters is priceless. Try and talk to the DOW, maybe they can give you a hint or two on better areas to go. Not every hunt is successful, but you can enjoy every time you go out.

Happy Hunting,

I don't spend very much at all. I also live where I hunt. Although, northern utah is really taking a deeper dive with every year that comes, how much i spend in hunting may be changing here in the very near future. banghead stupid utah management

I'm envious of you guys that can hunt elk locally. I live near lake Tahoe and the only abundant game are tourists. I've been hunting elk in Colorado for almost 20 years and enjoy it more each season. My average cost per trip is:

$500 tag
$850 horses
$250 processing
$500 food and fuel

Total $2,100

Now that does not count the items I spend annually at Cabelas, Sportsmen's Warehouse, and Bass Pro Shop. Also I can't add the Dodge PU I bought in March. That said I have a very understanding wife who lets me pursue my passions of fly fishing and elk hunting. I guess she'd rather see me with a bunch of smelly guys and a dead animal than a big chested blonde half my age. Happy wife equals happy life!

Non-resident Colorado elk hunt: license $600; gasoline $300; hotels $300; camp food $80; equipment purchases specifically for this trip $300; packing out of game $175: that's about $1700 (Don't tell my wife!!!)

Non-resident Oklahoma duck hunting: license $140; various stamps $30; hotels $120; gasoline $80: that's about $350.

It isn't cheap. But then again, there are a lot of good things that derive from my hunting. I'm not chasing skirts as some middle aged men sometimes do but instead am chasing feathers and/or white butts (Wapiti, elk, means "white butt"). I maintain my health and physical fitness much better than I otherwise would if I didn't know I was going to have to do some climbing up steep hills near treeline and carrying some heavy loads, and this fitness will probably contribute to my living longer and earning more money for the family.

Last year was probably around the $10,000 range because I bought a lot of new duck and goose decoys and gas prices were so high. It's about 160 miles one-way to where I hunt waterfowl and I did that about twice a week.

This year, I went on a hog hunting trip to Texas and ended up spending about 1,000, elk hunting this year cost a couple thousand because of the gear I had to buy and I'm still waiting for my buddy to tell me what I owe him for gas, Late antelope will probably run about 500 for hotel and gas. Waterfowl and small game shouldn't cost too much this year because I plan to hunt closer to home and less because we have 15-week old twins.
